Overview

Archie Lee Meighan's Mississippi cotton gin business is floundering in the face of Silva Vacarro's Syndicate Gin; to this frustration is added the sexual unavailability of his voluptuous young wife Baby Doll. Lucy Bailey's adaptation of Tennessee Williams' notorious screenplay, with an ingenious three-storey house setting by Bunny Christie, played at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1999 and the National Theatre, London, in 2000, garnering rave reviews in both venues.
